June is Pride Month. Originally commemorating the Stonewall riots in New York City, Pride Month celebrates the LGBT rights movement and its culture. Over the years, PBS has interviewed numerous LGBTQIA+ authors and is thrilled to be able to highlight some stories below:
Nic Stone on “Odd One Out” at the 2018 Miami Book Fair interviewed by Ashley Ford. From the New York Times bestselling author of Dear Martin comes an honest and touching depiction of friendship, first love, and everything in between. Perfect for fans of Love, Simon and What If It’s Us.
Charlie Jane Anders is the author of the Nebula Award-Winning sci-fi/fantasy novel ‘All The Birds In The Sky,’ a realistically rendered story of an encroaching apocalypse featuring a witch, a mad scientist, and magicians. Anders is the publisher of ‘other’ magazine, and recently released a new novel, “The City in the Middle of the Night.”
Sarah Broom is a trained journalist and author. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, the New York Times Magazine, O, The Oprah Magazine and elsewhere. In 2016, she received the prestigious Whiting Award for Creative Nonfiction, which allowed her to finish her first book, THE YELLOW HOUSE.
